Mike Brooker, K.C. appointed COO

Long-time partner and former managing partner of Burchell MacDougall LLP, Mike Brooker, KC, has been appointed as Chief Operating Officer of the firm.

Brooker joined Burchell MacDougall in 1984, in the Truro and Halifax offices before relocating to the Annapolis Valley when the firm opened an office in Wolfville in 2002. He was a partner for approximately 34 years, retiring from the partnership in late 2024, and served as Burchell MacDougall’s managing partner for over twenty years.

“Burchell MacDougall has experienced significant growth in the past ten years and we expect to continue that growth going forward,” says Brooker when asked about his new position, “With growth comes a more focused requirement to ensure that lawyers, staff and clients are provided the support necessary to be successful.”

In response, the firm’s partnership has restructured its management team, recently bringing on Theresa Williams as Director of Administration and Human Resources, in addition to adding Brooker as Chief Operating Officer.

“I have an understanding of the culture at Burchell MacDougall and considerable experience with issues related to the management of the firm,” he says, “As I wind down my own practice, I have the time to proactively consider issues that impact the firm and work to improve our support of our associate lawyers and assist the firm with our anticipated growth.”

“Managers are often effective in either understanding the big picture or in focusing on the details,” says Burchell MacDougall partner Kelly Mittelstadt, “We are very fortunate to have a COO in Mike, who has proven over the course of his career that he can successfully do both and seamlessly move from one skill set to the other. We know we can rely upon Mike’s strong knowledge and experience to build on our successful history, our values, and our dedication to clients.”

Burchell MacDougall LLP was founded in 1944 by Wilfred Burchell and R. Lorne MacDougall, and is one of the most established law firms in Nova Scotia. With offices in Truro, Elmsdale, Halifax, Wolfville, and Stellarton, their lawyers service clients throughout Atlantic Canada.
