Alan MacNeill hails from Halifax, with ancestry in PEI.
A graduate of Dalhousie University with an Honours Degree in Political Science, he went on to attend Dalhousie Law School, graduating in 1979.
Alan was the first Law Student in Nova Scotia to article to the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia (Chief Justice Cowan and Justice Connie Glube). After being admitted to the Bar, he moved to Truro in order to fill a short term position, which turned into a full time role in Truro's legal community. He has practiced in Truro for forty five years, a large part of which was with the firm of Grant, MacNeill.
Alan twice sat as the President of the Public Legal Education Society of Nova Scotia. Based in Halifax, the service provided legal education and guidance to thousands of Nova Scotians who needed an affordable way to understand their legal needs and responsibilities.
Through all the years, Alan and his former partner, Kirby Grant, enjoyed a close relationship with the lawyers at Burchell MacDougall. Lawyers like Lorne MacDougall and David Gruchy provided them with inspiration in the practice of caring law. Alan is very pleased to be able to join Burchell MacDougall and to work with the talented lawyers in the Firm. By doing so, he will be able to offer his clients broad access to a variety of legal services. Alan has enjoyed his time in various fields of the law. He practiced in Divorce, Family, Criminal and Real Estate but now focuses on Residential Real Estate transactions, Wills and Estates.
Alan and Paula raised three children in Truro and are happy that, what started as a short term opportunity has grown into a lifetime of legal service in a Community which continues to grow and prosper.
