Gerard (Gerry) Scanlan grew up with ten sisters in Walkerville, Richmond County, Cape Breton. His background taught him the value of hard work, teamwork, and the significant role of community in raising and supporting families.
Gerry attended St. F X and achieved a Baccalaureate degree in science, majoring in mathematics. He then went on to obtain a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Alberta, followed by the opportunity to teach mathematics at a community college for four years before entering law school.
Gerry received his law degree from Dalhousie University and was called to the bar in 1978, He has practiced in Truro as a sole practitioner since 1980. The practice has focused on real estate, wills and estates, small business, and corporate law with varied experiences.
Taking on leadership roles for the Truro Golf and Curling Clubs, playing key support roles in Beavers and the development of lacrosse in Colchester County over the years has been Gerry’s way of showing support for his community.
Outside of work Gerry has taught himself computer programming and carpentry and enjoys playing racquetball. His love of golf continues to be a work in progress.
As an experienced and senior lawyer, Gerry says “helping clients work through regulations and legal issues continues to be interesting and satisfying.”
